Born from Haruhiko Murakami’s relentless pursuit to maximize the advantages of AGS (Air Guide System) technology, this ambitious rod represents a new level of Heartland innovation.

In simple terms, it’s a rod designed to catch 50cm-class bass using PE 0.8 line with a 1.5 fluorocarbon leader. Murakami himself describes it in his signature phrase: “soft yet strong.” In essence, its power transitions fluidly, adapting perfectly to the angler’s intent — responsive as a soft rod when needed, yet immediately strong when called upon. This unique flexibility allows the angler to “crank the reel hard and turn the fish’s head,” as Murakami puts it.

The foundation is the legendary HL-Z 682LFS-ti Saegake Midge Direction, long praised as a masterpiece. By incorporating AGS, the rod achieves a new evolution of the PE Performance concept. It drastically reduces the line troubles common with PE line and allows ultra-light rigs to be handled comfortably. Designed specifically for PE line with spinning reels under size 2000, it features a custom guide setting born from the fusion of Daiwa’s AGS engineering and Murakami’s unique theory. The lightness of AGS fully unlocks the blank’s potential, delivering razor-sharp, air-cutting casts. As Murakami described it: “It flies straight with a clean shhh!” — an otherworldly casting feel. The minimal line flutter from the tip also enhances casting accuracy, and the high rigidity of AGS (compared to titanium or SUS guides) brings superior sensitivity.

The tip section uses a supple yet highly sensitive MegaTop, while the tubular blank is reinforced with X45 construction to virtually eliminate twisting. Though the feel is close to that of a full-solid rod, the tubular belly-to-butt construction keeps it astonishingly light. When hooked up, the firm guide support allows the rod to work smoothly from tip to butt, drawing a beautifully even bending curve — the result of Daiwa’s V-Joint and Hera joint technology.

By extending the original Saegake Midge Direction to 6’10”, this model adapts seamlessly to a wider range of fishing environments. What’s surprising is its ability to handle shad plugs, twitches, and jerks without the tip collapsing — making it far more versatile than expected.
